In the fifth grade the students at our elementary school do a very extensive study of the constitution. At the conclusion of the study they are required to participate in a mock congressional hearing. Shaylee worked so hard trying to get her speech just right and to try and come up with answers to the questions that her group was covering. After much preparation the night of the hearing arrived. As we pulled into the parking lot of the school her grandparents, Frank and Sue, also pulled in. She turned and said, "What are they doing here?" I casually answered, "They are your judges for the hearing." Her mouth fell open and she was speechless...doesn't happen very often. Needless to say she was quite nervous. However, when it was her groups turn to present their arguments they did a fabulous job. It was a fun night listening to each of the students share their thoughts on the Constitution of the United States of America. As one of the judges put it, "Our country is in good hands with the students that presented tonight as our future leaders." Well said Grandma Sue and well done Shaylee and Mrs. Owens' entire class!
