Running Theme....BASKETBALL

2014 isn't going to start off any different than the past handful of years, in that each one of our kids are playing basketball!  I could probably blog the months of January, February, and March and just say ditto.  Other than, maybe the tournaments would have a different name, the scoreboards would show different outcomes, and lessons learned might be of more or less value.

Unfortunately, for Liv January basketball did not treat her real well.  Up to January 11 her team was on a roll, the had a record of 14-1. Unfortunately, on the 11th, Liv jumped up to get a loose ball and came down and sandwiched her foot between an opponents two feet.  The team went on to lose the game and Liv would find out on Monday, from her favorite doctor, Dr. Heninger, that she would be sporting a boot for 6-8 weeks!  She tore the same tendon that she had to have reattached when she had her surgery 2 1/2 years ago.  The doctor is hoping that with the boot and physical therapy the tendon will heel on its own and surgery won't be necessary.  We shall see on February 24th. Even though the basketball season started out really rough, Liv had found her place on the team and was really enjoying playing for Coach Tueller.  Lots of tears were shed, games were won and lost without her, and her jv season came to an official end January 30. 

Shaylee is currently playing for the 8th grade Preston team, and is being coached by her dad and Todd Coburn.  At first we were hesitant to have Dave coach, because we weren't sure if that was what was best for Shaylee, but it has turned out to be a great thing for both of them.  The team has won some and lost some, and has a few weeks left in the season then Shaylee will head back to Elite for a few more months.

Taite too is playing for Dave.  He is playing in the Preston Rec league and having the time of his life. I really didn't think we would see him on the court again after his negative experience, but he has really started to love the game and is determined to "dunk it by 7th grade".  He is still way more layed back about it than the girls were at his age, but to see him enjoy it and want to play is a fun thing for mom and dad.

That is January in a nutshell.  Now to see what February brings!
