March Madness

March madness in the Priestley home has come to an end. We ended up sitting through 34 basketball games, 15 volleyball matches, and 4 soccer games. I suffered a few cases of serious bleacher butt, but all in all it was a good time. In the Smithfield basketball league Shaylee's team ended up with 1st place. Olivia and Taite's team played well, however, in the single elimination tournament they both lost their first games so they didn't advance. This was Taite's first opportunity to play in a competitive league. The league was for 3/4 graders and with a team of inexperienced 3rd graders matched up with a lot of experienced 4th graders sometimes it was hard to watch them take a whomping. However, every player put their heart into it and improved huge amounts. Olivia's soccer team is off to an amazing start. They are coming off of winning their division last fall, so it will be fun to see how they play. It is good to see Olivia back on the field and improving her game. Shaylee's CVVC volleyball team is also off to a super start. They are all 12 and under playing in a U14 league. Currently they have placed 2nd twice in pool play and third once. Shaylee has wowed me with her serves this year. I know as a 12 year-old I wouldn't want to be on the receiving side of them. With all the ball games and craziness there isn't a lot of new happening in our lives. Taite will now take a break from sports until summer camps. Olivia will finish up soccer in May, and then hit it hard this summer as an incoming freshman for soccer and basketball.

 Shaylee will finish out basketball and volleyball in May. Then, she will have one last hurrah with her Ogden team at the summer games in Cedar City. Finally, she will attend our local summer camps for volleyball and basketball. Shaylee also celebrated her 12th birthday this month! She is now old enought to join Olivia and me at Young Woman's every Tuesday and Sunday, and we look forward to her joining us at Girl's Camp this year. She was so excited because at Christmas she wanted an ipod touch and nothing else. Dave and I felt that the expense of one was out of our budget so we told her at Christmas that if she could save half the amount of one that we would help her get it for her birthday. She worked and worked, and sometimes fanagled money until she had exactly what she needed saved up, just in time for her birthday. This year it was kind of crazy fitting in a birthday celebration with all of our ball games, but yes, we did it and hopefully it will be a birthday to remember!
