July and August
As the common trend of this year, July and most of August has flown by. We are now down to days before school begins, which seems to be just looming around the corner. My first post of July was certainly not a precursor to the rest of the summer, thank goodness!
The past 6 weeks has gone by without incident, in typical summer fashion. Olivia and Shaylee are working hard at summer practices. Olivia is getting excited for soccer try-outs next week. She has been placed in a new position this summer, and she is really hoping to stay there this season even though in the beginning she wasn't too fond of it. The soccer team is working really hard with lots of practices a week, plus she still continues to lift weights three mornings a week. Basketball has been put on the backburner for both girls, for now, while they focus on fall sports. Shaylee is still in the decision making process cross~country vs. volleyball. We have left it up to her, but she also has to make a choice this year as it is too difficult for me to get her to all of her practices and games/meets when she is trying to do more than one sport. For now she practices with the volleyball team on Mondays, and then she runs with the cross~country team Wednesday and Friday.
Taite has been busy at the farm doing his favorite things. Thank goodness he has the farm, not sure how else he would spend the summer with me chasing the girls all over. He still wakes up daily wanting to go spend time out there, and I hope that doesn't ever change because he sure loves it and it is a healthy place for him to be.
I have put many, many miles on the mini van this month. I was able to transport the girls soccer team to St. George to attend a week long soccer camp and then turn around two weeks later and accompany them to Boise for three days. It has been so fun for me to learn a little bit more about soccer, and even more than that associate with Olivia's friends that are on the soccer team. It is a special thing for me that Olivia doesn't mind having me around when she is with her friends. I also tell her frequently that I don't want to be the hover mother. Hopefully, as a mom I can give her the space she needs to grow those wings and fly, but at the same time become a best friend for her to turn to.
Yes, summer is coming to an end. Hang on before you know it we will be out of school for Christmas!
