Yesterday, June 20, Olivia underwent her foot surgery on both feet. Dr. Heninger removed an accessory navicular bone on the inside of each foot. After removing the bone he drilled a hole in the navicular bone and anchored her posterior tibial tendon to the bone. She came out of the surgery successfully. Now we hurry and wait. She will be non-weight bearing (in a wheelchair) for 2 weeks. Then, she will be in boots (Taite calls them her storm trooper boots) for an additional 6 weeks. After which she will go to braces. The full recovery process is 12-16 weeks, depending on healing. She will have to sit on the sidelines for her fall soccer season, but she is hoping to be well enough to be ready for basketball mid-October. She has been so brave and tough. We are just praying that the surgery is successful and we can find her out on the court soon. In the meantime we will continue to pamper her and try to keep her comfortable. Good luck girlie, we love you!
